Stompin taps out its best work yet
PREVIEW By FIONA REILLY , Saturday, 25 November 2006
STOMPIN’S newest work created by Luke George and Bec Reid, presented in the unique venue at Roberts Wool Store, is a must-see.
It takes the viewer on a voyeuristic rollercoaster ride through rooms in a house built by the students from UTas School of Architecture.
The living room appears futuristic and gives a new meaning to the idea of reality TV. The dining room presents people waiting for a dinner party to begin, then when it does, there is no room for niceties and amid physical tussles, dinner conversation is poor!
The kitchen, replete with pink lino, floral wallpaper and shiny ’50s-clad dancers presents the facade of the perfect housemates.
The bathroom, full of misery and despair with upturned baths, walls falling down and too many toilets, houses a stunning solo by Lily Noonan.
Her shower looks like a prison in which she will never get clean.
The bedroom is not a place of comfort.
Individuals look homeless and behave like squatters; here today, gone tomorrow.
Home is a rich collaboration between the artists involved and a powerful work.
In this reviewer’s opinion, it is Stompin’s best work to date. Don’t miss it.
