Artistic Director - Caitlin Comerford
Caitlin is an independent dance artist who was based out of Brisbane for several years, having completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance (Performance) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in 2009 and a Bachelor of Arts in Dance (Honours) at Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2010. Caitlin has a strong history in choreography, teaching and leadership across a diverse range of communities. She has an impressive resume of dance performance as an individual, and with her collective MakeShift, having performed nationally and internationally. She has choreographed for QL2 Dance, QUT for the Out of the Box Festival (2012), the Aboriginal Centre of Performing Arts (ACPA), and Brisbane Festival and taught for ACPA, QUT, the University of Tasmania, Brisbane Dance Artists Hub and EDC (Expressions Dance Company). As an alumna of Canberra-based youth dance company QL2, Caitlin knows the immense value of being a part of the youth arts sector, and brings a deep passion and wide network to her role as Artistic Director at Stompin. Across all her work, Caitlin aims to create authentic opportunities to communicate and connect.
Acting Artistic Director - Gabriel Comerford
Gabriel Comerford is an artist with over 10 years professional experience and
is a founding member of MakeShift Dance Collective. He thrives off working across disciplines and is constantly seeking to challenge and extend himself. Whilst his practice is rooted in dance, his experiences have allowed him to learn from and incorporate elements of physical theatre, object theatre, puppetry, visual-arts, site-specific, Butoh, Suzuki, integrated practice, installation and durational performance.
His interest lies in collaboration and the creative process; sifting through first impressions to expose the core of the theme or concepts at hand. He has an inquisitive mind, a powerful physicality and a captivating stage presence.
Gabriel believes deeply in the power of movement, dance and the arts to act as a transformative tool for healing and change.
Alongside being Stompin’s Acting Artistic Director, Gabriel is currently working with Tasdance, MakeShift Dance Collective, leading two independent projects and is diving head first into fatherhood.
Producer - Mary Shannon
Mary Shannon is an arts worker, performer and enthusiast from Tasmania. Working on numerous local events such as Festivale (Event Officer), Junction Arts Festival (Program Co-Ordinator), Party in the Paddock (Artist Liaison) as well as producing her own events as part of the local music scene, Mary has formed a solid and well rounded understanding of arts culture and community ethic and how these are integrated to form a better life experience for many. Passionate about the future of our youth and issues affecting our society, Mary has a keen focus on developing work that is relevant and expresses self in a way that is cathartic and healthy.
Artistic Associate - Bec Jones
Bec Jones is an award winning contemporary dancer, choreographer and educator. Bec studied at Adelaide College of the Arts where she completed a Bachelor Dance Performance Degree. Bec has performed for Leigh Warren and Dancers, Prue Lang, Frances Rings, Tasdance, Graeme Murphy, Jukstapoz, Liesel Zink, Gabrielle Nankivell and Stephanie Lake. Passionate for teaching and youth dance, Bec regularly lectures contemporary in some of Australia’s most highly regarded tertiary institutions.
Champion - Stephanie Lake
Stephanie Lake is a multi award-winning Australian choreographer, dancer and director of Stephanie Lake Company. She is also a Stompin alumni and continuous supporter.
