We celebrate the talents of young performers in professional, inspiring and bold dance works set in stunning site-specific locations. Stompin is a place for young people and emerging artists to lead, create and present new ideas at the edge of contemporary culture. These young people then have access to some of the nations most exciting professional artistic teams of lighting, set design and choreography, making a dynamic mix of new voices with skilled practitioners.

Stompin is ambitious and fresh – embracing and celebrating youth culture The dancers are aged 14 – 26 and perform with the irrepressible exuberance of raw youthful physicality. The choreographers are the next generation of Australian dance makers, who push and experiment with the boundaries of contemporary performance. The company’s work is slick, fierce and contemporary - the youth/artist/community collaboration and artistic innovation is second to none.
Stompin has an inherent belief in the power shifting dance into extraordinary landscapes and new spaces, crossing borders of age and culture, people and place. Stompin has presented large scale site-specific performance works in locations as diverse as a forest, a beach, swimming pools, warehouses, an airline maintenance hangar and a wool store.
Stompin creates and presents its work in Tasmania and through national and international touring, collaborations and residencies. With a nationally celebrated profile for its high standard of work, Stompin packs a solid history of touring and festival presentation including: a commission by the Sydney Opera House, Arts House (Melbourne), the World Islands Festival in Cheju South Korea, 10 Days on the Island (Tasmania) and Next Wave (Melbourne). The company has been recognised for its outstanding achievements and services to the community through several awards and nominations.
The company pursues meaningful and powerful connections between the community and its artwork: connecting hot young artists, untrained young dancers and multi-generational audiences and participants. The company builds connections, belonging and recognition in young people and emerging artists and creates a point of dialogue between young people and the community ensuring a link into the future.
